Buffer Zone Principles

Author’s research note documenting the comprehensive buffer zone framework developed for the thesis. The buffer system organizes Lahaina’s edges through four zones — coastal, riparian, peri-urban, and hinterland — as adaptive landscapes operating through three logics: attenuation (absorbing environmental forces), connection (linking separate systems), and occupation (programming buffers for active human use).
