Proposed Recovery Framework
Hypothesis
If Lahaina's post-fire recovery is guided by a multi-scalar, system-integrated framework rooted in the ahupua'a model, linking coast, urban fabric, peri-urban buffer, and hinterland, and supported by modular, climate-adaptive architecture and community-anchored nodes, then it can achieve a resilient rebuilding process that restores ecological function, prevents displacement, preserves cultural identity, and provides a replicable model for post-disaster urbanism in climate-vulnerable regions worldwide.
The diagram distills the thesis argument into one image: a protected urban core supported by coastal, riparian, peri-urban, and hinterland systems working together as one recovery framework.
